BEAM - Business with impact, is Business Finland's joint program with the government to support Finnish companies generate sustainable business in developing countries

BEAM is a five year program with a budget of 50 million euros, aiming to create sustainable business in developing countries with Finnish innovation. The funds are equally provided by Business Finland and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Innovations are the prerequisite and driver of economic development, generating new and reforming existing economic activity while creating new jobs, opportunities for entrepreneurship and financial resources, and increasing long-term trading potential. In this way, innovations enable poor people in developing countries to increase their consumption of everyday commodities.

How we reached the goals

The purpose of the program is to assist Finnish enterprises and other actors in using innovations to address global development challenges, by converting such innovations into successful and sustainable business in both Finland and developing countries.

We took on the task of coordinating the program, facilitating development of successful business in emerging markets. By diving into differing geographical locations and markets, we've identified business opportunities in emerging markets. Our efforts also increase public awareness of the opportunities in new rapidly growing emerging markets.

Key takeaways

So far over a hundred projects have been included in the program addressing challenges in emerging markets of the developing world. More than two thirds of these are initiatives of private companies or associations.
