The Thermoplastic Lignin Production (TLP) project will develop a first-of-a-kind biorefinery producing a completely new renewable and bio-degradable biomaterial (called RENOL®) from lignin, a by-product of the kraft pulping industry.

Key challenges

The innovative solution will help replace fossil-based plastics, such as polyethylene, and help avoid more than 70% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by conventional materials.

How we reached the goals

Lignin Industries secured their success in the highly competitive application process with support from Spinverse funding experts. Spinverse helped Lignin Industries in structuring their proposal and in planning the schedule to reach the high quality required in the project proposal on time.

Key takeaways

The large-scale production site will produce the patented, renewable, and high functional bio-based material RENOL® from lignin, a by-product of the kraft pulping industry. RENOL® can be used in bio-composites for producing packaging films, such as wrapping plastics and plastic bags.
