Niina Kuusanniemi-Abbotts joined Spinverse in spring 2020 as a Project Manager in the Bioeconomy team, with a focus on preparing applications for EU funding.
Niina graduated in 2005 from Durham University in the UK with a MEng in general engineering and spent the first years of her career in water and environmental engineering consulting. Since moving to Finland in 2009, she pivoted to helping cleantech SMEs internationalise and access innovation funding, and spent 8 years attracting foreign direct investment to the Finnish cleantech, renewable energy and smart mobility sectors. Immediately prior to joining Spinverse, Niina worked as an independent sustainable business and emerging technology consultant, engaged in projects as diverse as creating an autonomous aerial vehicle ecosystem at a new airfield, to reviewing international institution policy developments around an equitable and fair circular economy.
In her spare time, Niina can be found outdoors learning from nature’s ingenious evolutionary adaptations and thinking about how these design lessons can be applied to create innovations in business and technology. She is currently completing her MS Biomimicry studies at Arizona State University and is training to become the first Certified Biomimicry Professional in the Nordics.
