In April MacroArray Diagnostics GmbH, an Austrian life science company, was granted 2,5 M€ from EU’s Horizon 2020 SME Phase 2 instrument for their project AllergyExplorer. The project aims to strengthen development of their revolutionary allergy diagnostics technology and make their product AllergyExplorer (ALEXTM) the leading solution for allergy diagnostics. The test is cost-efficient and delivers instantly correct results.
Allergies and asthma affect at least a quarter of the population. While often harmless, an increasing number of people suffer from severe allergies, resulting in more than 300.000 avoidable deaths per year. The WHO therefore declared allergy a major health problem of the 21st century. Currently, medical practitioners must pre-select very few allergens for in-vitro testing, based on prior anamnesis, which often results in false or incomplete diagnosis. There is no cost-efficient technology to improve the quality of diagnosis to an optimal level for patient-tailored and evidence-based treatment. The fast-growing segment of molecular diagnostic tests requires a new generation of assays and laboratory automation.
MacroArray Diagnostics (MADx) has developed a multi-parameter allergy test covering close to 100% of the globally relevant allergens ( aprox. 300 allergens) in a single lab test. ALEXTM – Allergy Explorer test delivers instantly correct results for all allergic patients, while reducing the overall costs for the healthcare provider. Instead of forcing medical practitioners to pre-select very few allergens for in-vitro, the solution substantiates any therapeutic decision by offering a complete immunological profile for every tested individual. The trade-off between cost and quality of allergy diagnosis is eliminated.
Spinverse supported MacroArray Diagnostics in project preparation, including help in defining the scope of the project. Together we formulated the best way to present the business case and work plan for the project. After a positive decision from the EU Commission, Spinverse supported MacroArray Diagnostics in the project negotiation phase.
